Home Selling Tips During the Holidays

This is at the top of the list of home seller tips:  Deck the halls with boughs of holly; add a bit of mistletoe, a tastefully decorated 7 foot blue spruce, and the spicy scent of gingerbread, or chocolate or pumpkin pie, and you could be on your way to selling your house before the holidays are over.

After all, this is the time of year when a beautifully decorated home opens the flood gates of nostalgia and holds up the house as a promise of home – that beacon of success and happiness.

During the holiday season, a great kitchen isn’t just a room full of upgraded appliances. It’s a room in which home buyers can envision hosting grand parties for family or friends who enjoy making – and eating – all kinds of cookies, and eggnog and delectable comfort foods.  The kitchen should be able to embrace a hubbub of love.  It’s the warm and inviting heart of the home, and the holidays are the perfect time to show yours off at its finest.

Remember It’s A Wonderful Life?  Mary didn’t just fall in love at first sight with George Bailey, she fell in love with her house.

And, let’s not forget that George Bailey and the Bailey Building and Loan were loved for creating the best little houses you could imagine, and they made them affordable for the families who needed them, the families of Bedford Falls.  With each house a token gesture was made.  Each family was given:

  •     Bread – so that the house would never know hunger
  •     Salt – so that the lives of the people living there would always have flavor
  •     Wine – so that joy and prosperity would reign forever

And when times got tough for George, those happy, satisfied people poured into George and Mary’s house – oh, it was never perfect, but it sure was a home.

But, maybe the most memorable house isn’t George and Mary’s.  Maybe it’s the one that little 6 year old Susan Walker claimed for her own when she finally used her imagination to believe.  The one she asked Santa for in Miracle on 34th Street.

This season, show your house as a home for someone else, and help them fall in love. It’s part of the magic of Christmas.
